Creating a strong start in business

Before opening my machine shop in Philadelphia several years ago, I remember speaking to one of childhood buddies, Tom, who is a successful entrepreneur.

Being new to entrepreneurship, Tom was the person I looked up to. His food trailer, which he started with a capital of just $500, has now expanded to one of most reputable restaurants in the city.

Till this day, I still remember Tom’s exact words about starting a business: “Start fast and finish strong.”

“Focus, focus, and focus,” he said, because taking control of one’s personal and professional life is key to success.

After reading more business articles online, it is only then that I realized how valuable Tom’s advice was in the success of my business. Most business experts emphasize the importance of focus and determination. It is often said that is better to do one thing perfectly, than 10 things poorly.

Another factor, which most of today’s entrepreneurs underestimate, is the power of passion. It is pertinent that people discover what they are passionate about for this will drive them to do their best every time.

So ask yourself: What are you passionate about that makes you excited to go to work every morning? What is the business that brings you so much joy?

Answering these questions will allow you to create a strong start in business—not only as an entrepreneur, but also as a person who is pursuing the things that truly matter in life.
